"A SERIOUS CONDITION."

Reporting on the result of his inspectorial duties during July, the Milk Inspector wrote to the City Council, through the Public Health Committee, as follows:— "I beg to report the serious condition regarding adulterated milk during tho month of July, 15)18. From July 1 to July 31 tho number of samples taken totalled 109, and of these twenty were found'to .contain added water, ranging from 4 per cent, to 28 per cent. Two cases, where- water was found on vendors' carts in milk .cans, the samples obtained proved to contain one 28 per cent, added water and tho other 0 percent. "As a check against the vendors concerned, Inspector Cowdrey and myself carried out a special inspection on the farmers' milk arriving at the Lambton Station and Thorndon Station on July 30, and thirty-eight samples were taken, the results showing that only two bore traces of added water, and those being less than 4 per cent. - I also obtained twenty-six samples direct from the Makara farmers, and only one sample contained _ added water, therefore, it would be unjust tn ■Buspecfthe farmers all the time in 'face- of this inquiry. "In one of the added water cases the servant is blamed by the firm, but the Magistrate will decide that question." ■ , , The report was considered in committee. '
