THE BRITISH SCALE. ' Certain improvements have been mado lately in the British scale of war pensions'. The rates are still very much lower than the corresponding New /-ealand rates. Tho changes are chiefly to improve tho position ot ciiuthe British pension rates for children were ss. a week for Hio first child, 45. 2d. a week, for the second, 3s. 'Id. a week for the third, and 2s. Gd. a.week for all others. Hie new i- rates ore 6s. Bd. a week for the liist e child, 5s a week for (he second, and is. k 2d. a week for all others. The widow [1 receives 13s. 3d. a week in all cases, o Tlio new British pension rates are comI, pared with the New Zealand rates in the following tabic:— , Britain. N.Z. o Widow alone J'' ® .
