MAORI WOMEN VICTIMISED

At the Supremo Court Frederick Hampson and James Willoughby were charged with conspiring to defraud two Maori women of .Cl 9 at the last Hawke's Bay races, and were alternately charged v/ith obtaining money by false pretences. They received the money to put on a horse, representing themselves as the owner and trainer, and refused to show the tolalisator tickets.. They were found guilty on the latter charge, with a recommendation to mercy for Willoughby, a Wellington boardinphouse-koeper, who waa influenced by Hampson. Sentence was postponed.
