ARBITRATION COURT

CLAIMS FOR COMPENSATION. The Court of Arbitration- sat in. Wellington yesterday. Mr. Justice Stringer and the assessors were Messrs. W. Scott (employers) and J. A. M'Cullough The Court heard a claim by 1 nomas Sh'errad, "Wellingtoti, for compensation from the New Zealand Shipping Company, by whom he was employed at the time lie met with injuries to his back through falling from a stack of meat when assisting to load ono of the coinpnnv's vessels. The accident occurred in December, 1916, and Sherrad contended that he had since then been totally disabled, and had been advised that that condition would be permanent. The company had paid Sherrad a. weekly compensation of .£2 is., nnd .disputed the contention that Sherrad had been tolhllv disabled. ~ After hearing evidence the president said it would consider what amount should bo paid to Sherrad as compeuslrtion. , ... Mr P. J. O'Rejiiui appeared for Kherrad, and Mr. M. Myers for the shipping company. CUM BY A LABOURER. Robert Hyndman, labourer, sought to secure compensation from Hansford and Mills, building contractors. Hyndman met with an accident through a stono falling on him while lie was in the employ of the defendants at Sandy Bay. Ift was paid compensation from Febru. ary 25 to July 6, but claimed that full compensation should be paid till the date of the trial, and then further compensation aa for partial incapacity. Judgment was for plaintiff as on_ a basis of partial incapacity for .£2O, with costs .£5 55., witnesses' expenses, and disbuisements.
