Mrs. Hope Lewis is at present visiting Auckland, and is staying at Cargcn. An interesting appointment which has been raado at Homo in connection with the London Zoological Gardens is that of Miss Cheesman, to bo assistant entomologist. Miss (Jheesman is not tho first woman to take high rank as an entomologist. Miss Ormcrod's work stood in tho first rank, and that willing writer of h'avels, Mary ICingiley, was nioro famous for her studies, of the African lepodoptcrus in the scientific world than for her literary attainments. Miss Cheesman, however, is tho first woman curator to be appointed to the Zoo. On each transport, or hospital ship conveying a contingent of wounded men back to the Dominion, a consignment of Ked Cross comforts is now placed for the use of the men, says tho latest issuo of the "Red Cross ltecord." On one returning troopsliip, carrying 230 wounded mpn, supplies such as tho following were sent on board: 10,000 cigarettes, 101b. tobacco, 50 pipes, 12 sets dominoes, 12 cribbage boards and pegs, 9 draught boards and men, 24 packs playing cards, fi chess boards and men, 100 pairs socks, 200 handkerchiefs, 150 scarves, 230 sticks shaving soap, 100 pair gloves, 100 pair mittens, 200 cardigans, 230 tubes tooth paste. On another returning troopship, carrying 350 wounded, proportionately larger supplies of most of the above were placed on board, besides 100 deck chairs, 2 gramophones, some records, 1001b. of gingernnts, 201b. cocoa .and milk, 1001b. plain chocolate, 3 dozen Glaxo, IS dozen Bovril, and G dozen Bovo. ■In thi6 instance the commanding officer asked for foodstuffs for the sick, and they were at once provided. Sometimes the supplies aro varied by sending stationery, books, songs (if. asked for), and quoits, etc. Woman's greatest asset is her hair; tho face, no matter how sweet, has lost its oharm if. the hair on forehead and temples is scant, dull, or greasy. Anyone, child, mother, or grandmother, can grow hair, and good hair. Nothing grows as quickly in the world as hair under healthy conditions, and nothing like it so responds to mild and gentle treatment. Hair is a very sensitive plant, and great harm can bo done through ignorance and tho use of this and that indiscriminately. Miss Milsom has studied hair and its peculiarities for 16 years, and can therefore advi6o the correct treatment a.nd preparations to use. "Write and describe the condition of your scalp and hair. Will bo pleased to reply gratis, giving sound practical advico. Miss Milsoin, !U Willis Street, opposite Shorlt's Picture Theatre. 'Phone 81'1— Advt.
