William It'Elwain, also known ail Jack Lockwood, was charged -with being a rogue and a vagabond, in that ho was found by night on prdvato property in Tinakori Boad. Accused admitted that ho was on tho property, and wont into a lengthy explanation of how ho camo to bo there. This, tho Magistrate said, amounted. to nothing. Sub-Inspector Sew stated that tho accused was found in a stable tit 1.45 a.m. sitting on somo straw and smoking a cigar. Accused wag convicted and sentenced) to six months' imprisonment. For insobriety, Olara Algar, an old offender, ivas convicted and fined £3, tho alternative being seven day's imprisonment. A remand for a week was granted in the caso of William Bolan, charged with tho theft of tobacco, vnliuod at £6 9s. 9d„ tho property o£ somo person or persons unknown.
