News has been received in ■Wellington that Private P. D! Menard, brother-in' law of Mrs. E. J. Menard, of 103 Pirw Street, has received a gunshot wound in the right thigh on August 2, and has been admitted to a hospital in France. The wound caused a compound fracture of the thigh. Johnson" whose, name appeared in th 9 list of those who-won the J] ilita rj-' Medal' at the M essines Battle was "Archie" Johnston, son of Major M'Donald Johnston, of Wellington South. He was acting as company dispatch runner. All the other runners wereput out of action early in the day, leaving him to carry on alono nntil the boys wera finally "dug in" in the German fourth line.
