FIGHTING ON THE RIGA FRONT
RUSSIAN OUTPOSTS DRIVEN IN THE SITUATION IN RUMANIA UNCHANGED (Kec. August 23, 10.40 p.m.) London, August 22. A Russian ooicial report states: "A German offensive at Tnkkuni drove back our cavalry advance posts. There is vigorous German artillery fire in the Dvinsk and Brody regions. The enemy attacked south-west of tho town of Sereth and occupied a fortified height. Fighting continues in the direction of Ocna, with varying success."—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.-Renter. ' GERMAN OFFICIAL REPORT. (Ecc. August 2_, 0.5 a.m.) London, August 23. A German official report states:—"Strong Rumanian attacks south of the Trotus Valley were repulsed with heavy enemy losses."—Ans.-N.TI. Cable Assn.- . Renter. ' ______ JAPANESE TROOPS FOR THE RUSSIAN FRONT ' QUESTION REPORTED TO BE UNDER CONSIDERATION. New York, August 22. The "Now York 'World's" Paris correspondent says that the newspaper "Matin" urges sending Japanese troops to reinforce tho Russians, and also to relievo the garrisons} in Siberia, thus releasing Russian effectives for the fighting zone. The "Nyksun's" Washington correspondent reports that the Administration is considering tho question of sending a. force of a hundred thousand troops to nssist Russia—Aus.-N.Z. Cablo Assn. AMERICAN TRANSPORT EQUIPMENT FOR RUSSIA. Washington, August 22. It is authoritatively learned that tho United States will supply Russia with 2500 locomotives and 40,000 cars, at a cost of 700 millions—Aus.-N.Z. Cablo Assn. RUMANIAN PARLIAMENT AT ODESSA. . London, August 22. Mr. Bourchior, "Tho Times" correspondent at Rumanian Headquarters, states 'that the members of tho Rumanian Parliament have arrived at Odwsa,—"The "Times."
