AUSTRALIA'S NEW CAPITAL
EXPENDITURE Oii , .£1,500,000. Melbourne, June 7. The Minister of Home Territories (Air. Glynii) returned to Melbourne yesterday afler a visit to the Federal Capital. Re stated that he had inspected various works in progress there, and had visited the proposed site of tlie arsenal. He indicated that altogether ,£1,500,000 had already been spent'on the Federal Capital, of which a little under .£1,0110,000 was accounted for-by works and administration, the remainder going in the purchase, of land.. Tlie Military College had cost, 'louhlv, about .£250,000; the power-house about .£100,0(10; brickworks about JMO.OOil; temporary buildings', about .&><i,ooo; waterworks between .WIM.OOO anil ■£270,(100; and:the sowernge scheme about •£40,000. The' balance was made up in roads and surveys. Mr. Glynn stated that the money spent on the sewers would probably all have to be sacrificed. He added that there were no city buildings, properly speaking, yet erected at Canberra.
