THE END OF THE' WAR IN PROPHECY

The war will end on August 28 of this year, and Germany will be crushed" 15y the Italians, according-to a prophecy attributed to St. Malachie, mado ill the twelfth century, recently unearthed by tho Director of the Civil t sfuscuni at Como, and published in. the "Petit Journal." Malachie, the accuracy of whose ■predictions regarding the line-of Poped three centuries after his own/era is celebrated, begins by specifying in somewhat mysterous language the exact date—August 28, 1916—0n which "new races, taking tneir name from-Eomulus"—which nrust mean, (he Rumanians—would enter the war. ."Then,".the prophecy is said to continue, "the ferocious beast which for two Years- and one month had covered the earth with blood, horror, and carnage, will be enveloped ou every side, and, striking out vainly the while| will seek wnoni it can devour,«but will* never find iiirn. There will be groat battles during IBirteen. moons. The fifth day after _tho .sun comes out from the sign, of the lion Hie beast will die a, very bad death." Including the moon which was new the. day Rumania entered the war, the thirteenth new inoon would rise on August 17 next, and vanish again ou September 16, and ou August iZ the sun leaves the sign of the Lion,to enter under the sign of Virgin. Five days later would be August; US, and on that day, Malachie says, the war must end. Concerning Italy, he says:—"A virgin whose' name contains two iotas, two alphas,, one tau, and one lambda (the Greek letters meaning, respectively. I A T and L, an so spelling Italia) will mish the beast's head, and the Latin People will divide its remains."
