PEACE OVERTURES IN THE TRENCHES
MIDENTSONTHE RUSSIAN FRONT 'V ' ' "(Reo. 'April 27, 6.30 p.m.) Petrograd, April 26. The.Germans are unremitting in their attempts to parley with the Russian soldiers. They display placards: "Do not attaok, and we will not." For several days on many of the sectors on .the front the Germans havo not fired a shot., German aeroplanes dropped proclamations alleging that a popular movement is. in progress in Germany in favour of immediate negotiations for an honourable peace. Many Austro-German parties, carrying red and white flags, attempted to reach the Russian trenchos, despite the fact that,they; were fired on. Some were taken prisoner. The latter affirmed that the enemy's'ranks, especially the Socialists, desired an immediate peace. At the latest reports the Russian artillery is increasing in activity at various points.—Seute'r.
A BAIT TO BRIBE THE RUSSIANS (Rec. April 27, 9.30 p.m.). London, April 26. Count Eeventlow informs the German Press that Talaat Pasha, is visiting Germany to confer with the naval and military experts regarding possible Dardanelles concessions to Russia. — Ausi-N.Z. Cable Assn.
