NEW BRITISH £1 NOTES

PRINTED IN THB.EE COLOURS. The issue of the new British £1 currency notes was made at the end of January. The watermark consists of the lexers ■ "One. Pound';'in, a tablet, with the Hoyal Cipher (G.R. surmounted Tw a I crown) on either side. Above and below Bis letters "N" of the words "One and "Pound" appear 0 7i e of the four national emblems, the rose, thistle, shamrock, and daffodil, and the intervening spaces are filled in with slanting lines. The watermarks will not necessarily be ,m the same position on every note. "The I main design of the note, which is, printed in ton brown ink, consists of the King's head (on the right) printed in greenish Tjrown surrounded by an oval in which the- Imperial titles axo get out and surmounted by the Imperial crown, and a representation of Saint George and the dragon (on the left), both being intersected by a bar containing in heavilyprinted capitals the words "Ono Pound'." Tlie ground work of the bar contains decorative scroll work printed in green and purple. The lotterin?; of the note is printed in capitals in gteen ink. and at the bottom left-hand corner of tho note, also in green ink. is the symbol JJI. ■ The numbers of the notes are printed in black ink, and appear twice on the front of each note, one mini"ber to the right of the symbol -CI and the other above the Imperial crown surmounting the King's head. On the back of the note appears a representation pf the Houses of Parliament printed in brown ink. The original designs for the King's head and tho St. George and the dragon were executed l>v M>.
