ANNUAL MEETING/; By Telegraph—Special Correspondent. Carterton, February 17. Mr. T. S. Arcus, president, presided over a fair attendance at the annual meeting of the AVairarapa Caledonian Society, held at M.asterton last night. The balance-sheet disclosed a small credit balance, the profits for the year having been donated to patriotic purposes. Mr. M'Ewen was elected president for the ensuing tei«a, Mr. 11. Cameron, chief, and Messrs. Duncan M'Lachlan 'and J. E. M??. Caldwell, vice-presi-dents: Mr. A. J. Giddings, treasurer; and the following directors: Messrs. J. B. M'Keiizie, lan Cameron, J. W. Henderson, E. H. Waddington, A. J. Welch, Jolin Grav, T. G. Hoar, P. Cotter,'Thos. Wyeth, Jas. Walker; W. E. Chamberlain, A. E. Gosnell, J. A. fa-ankeltoii, Thos. Bolton, and R. Morrison. Mr. Pi. Brown was re-elected auditor, and Artiiur-Pine-Major D. G. Brown, and Piper Gordon M'Kay were elected honorary pipers. The retiring president (Mr. T. S. Ar-' ens, Carterton) was presented with, the past president's modal, and the hope was expressed for a long and hnniy future, the good sentiments being suit-' ablv acknowledged. Tile question of increasing tho ages in the juvenile • dancing classes was discussed, and it was finally decided to set up a special committee to go into the matter and report to a meeting of the directors. A motion "that no amateur athletic events he placed on tho programme unless the Amateur Athletic Society provides the tronhios," ' was, after some discussion withdrawn. A resolution, moved by Mr. A. AV. Hogg, and seconded by ' Mr. G. P*. Sykes, M.P., placing on record the meeting's high estimation of the conduct of the members of the society who had enlisted nnd gone to fight the battips of the Empire, was carried with acclamation. The president pointed out that it had already been decided to erect two tablets, one for mombers of the society, a lid tho other for members of the Pine Band.
