DISCHARGED SOLDIERS
THE INFORMATION DEPARTMENT. The following ! weekly progress statcment of the work of the Discharged Soldiers' Information Department, as at February 13, is made available by the Minister in Charge (the Hon. A. L. Herdman):— Total number of men on register:— (A) Disposed of, SS2S; (B) under action, nS-t; (C) not ready for action (including men returned by recent transports), 374; total, 6781?. / . _^ Particulars showing how cases ul-u.v with: — Gases disposed of:—(a) 'Men who have work to return to, ,and men who have re-eulisted or returned to military duty, etc.,' 2488; (b) men placed in employment, 1352; (c)' men who have signed, "Assistance not required," 1208; (d) left New. Zealand, or cannot ascertain address, 153; (e) men who have not responded to repeated communications, and men who. have accepted work the Department jound for them, but failed to start work, 537; total. 5828. Cases under action,:—(a) Reports upon cases not yet returned by officers making inquiries. -147; (b) awaiting further advice (including men who have stated that they are not yet ready for workl, 33G; (c) at present on employment wanted register. 101: total, 584. Cases not ready for action:—Men convalescing, not readv for emplovment, and not vet discharged by t'he military authorities, 374., Grand total, 6788.
