A soldier in a Scottish regiment was brought before Sheriff Craigie at Glasgow to answer a charge of falsely stating on a marriage schedule that ho was a private in the Ist South Staffordshire Tiegiment, and that' bis parent's resided in Staffordshire. He admitted the offence, and Mr. .T. D. Strathern. Deputy Fiscal, explained that accused had very gallantly agreed to take the place of a faithless bridegroom. Ho was ,to. have been "best man!' at Uio marriage of the Staffordshire soldier, who, however, ran away a day or two before the day fixed for its celebration. Accused agreed to take tho tilace of this man and marry the girl. Jt was an estimable act, done out of kindness of heart, and he was prepared to stand bv his action. The Sheriff,-remarking that accused had acted with the kindest motives, dismissed him with an admonition.
