Mr. James Nicholson, of the firm of Mace and Nicholson, _has returned from a health-recruiting visit to Queensland, greatly benefited by his experience. Heresided for the most part at Roma, a small town some 318 miles west of Brisbane, and the centre of a vast country that only needs a fair rainfall to make it a yery rich country. When he arrived there in July last there had only been, a rainfall of one inch in the previous two years, and the country, looked as though it had beon ploughed and harrowed, and then pressed flat. During his stay there were two or tkrea days' rain, and the effect was yery soon noticeable in the advent of nativo grass that covered the ground as far as the eye could reach. The surrounding country is held in very large blocks, and is utilised for cattle-raising, wheatgrowing, and grazing a few sheep. When there was a long, dry spell and the feed disappeared, the cattle had to he driven to other districts'perhaps 200 or 300 miles away, where the owners probably held land that was not s,o badly stricken. Mr. Nicholson also visited Mitchell and Charleville (another 170 miles west of Roma), where the 6amc conditions obtained.

The overseer of the Masterton, County Council is to be asked to prepare an estimate of the cost of an improved water-supply system for the suburb, of Lansdowne.
