— THE INFORMATION DEPARTMENT. The_ following progress statement of. the work of the Discharged Soldiers Information Department as at November 20 is made available by the llinisier in Charge (the' Hon. A. L. Herdmaa):— Total number of men oil register:— (A.) Disposed of, 5099; (B.) Under action, 501; (O.) Not ready for action (including men returned by recent transports), 386; total, 5956. ' Particulars showing how cases dealt with:—(A.) Cases disposed of: (a.) Men who have work to return to, and men who have re-enlisted or returned co rnili-. tary duty, etc., 2168; (b.) Men placed in .-yment, 1191;, (c.) Men who iiavo si»nud ''Assistance not required," 1157;' (d.) Left New Zealand or cannot ascertain address, 149; (e.) Men. who have not responded to repeated communications, and men who have ■ accepted, work the Department found for :IK-m but-failed to start work, 431; total, 5099. (B.) Cases under action:—(a.) Reports ■upon cases not yet returned by officers making inquiries, 120; (b.) Awaiting further advice (including men. who have stated that they are not yet ready for work), 223; (c.) At present on Employment Wanted Register, 158; total,'sol. (0.) Cases not Teady for action-:—Men convalescing, not- ready for employment, and not yet discharged lsy the. military authorities, 356.
