A meeting of the Exccutivp Committee' of tho Wellington Branch of' thb Navy League was held at tho leagiio s. oJfico on Thursday. There woro present: Messrs; J. 15. Harcourfc (in tho chair), 0. \V. I'almor, C. It. Smith, B. Keesing, A. Atkins, A; J'\ Wiren, It. Darroch, Mesdauies Hall-Thompson, Hopo Lewis, Bradnoy Williams, Algar Williams, and Miss Speed. The lion, secretary reported that over ono hundred new members had been enrolled during the past three months. - It was debided that Messrs .Kirkcaldie and Stains should bo asked to receive packages ot clothing from the country branches for the men of the lessor auxiliary Fleet. It was reported that the total amount collected for tho French lied Cross as tiio outcomo of Trafalgar Day celebrations was £114 Is. Ud. Of this amount tlio sum ot £10 3s. 7d. was contributed by Miss Baber's Fitzlierbert Terrace School, which sum has not previously, tieen acknowledged. It ivis decided to hand tho gross amount over to Mr. James Macintosh, Consul for ■franco, lor transmission to the proper authorities. Mr. Darroch reported that it was proposed; with tho approval oF tho Education Board, to ask tlio school children to contribute Id. per hoad for tlio purposo of providing an outing for tlio Doys of tlio battloship New Zealand. It was mentioned that the chaplain had asked for a sum of between £25 and; £30 por annum for tho purposo of providing a picnic tor tho boys, there being on the battleship between soventy and eighty under the ago of eighteen years. It was-decided to refuud Sailors' Dependants' Fund te the_ Sailors' Comforts Fund a sum of £25 lis. 3d., which liad been previously transterred. '. . iV sub-committee, consisting of Mossrs. Darroch", Smith, and the hon. secretary, was set up for the purpose of establishing a permanent prize for competition amongst tho schools, and' in acknowledgment ot tho services of the late secretary, to bo known ; asthe: Palmer-prize..'. started at tho Marfcon Girls' College. Slio also mentioned' that a donation for a prize had been received from Mr. Myers for an essay on the Navy, to be competed foi amongst the--State schools, and that Mrs. Hope Lewis had also "lonated a prize for a similar competition .amongst the .... private schools.
