NATIONAL REGISTRATION OF WOMEN

CLASSIFICATION FOR EMPLOYMENT. The Hon. G. W. Russell, Minister of Internal Affairs, having announced the partial proceeding of the Women's National Registration in Greater Wellington, it is fitting to briefly supplement those remarks as to tho complete registration under tho conduct of the Women's National Reserve. For the purpose of carrying out the details of the registration, a special executive sub-committee was set up, consisting of Mesdames Dr. Platts-Mills, HallThompson, and Porter. The total number registered, (although limited to clerical work) reached the largo number of 850. Miss Phoebe Myers, 8.A., lent by the Education Department, assisted by Miss M'Lean, M.A., and Miss Hetherington, M.A._, further augmented by a speciar registration committee consisting of Mesdames Gill, Hosking. Salmorid, Boden, Hall-Thompson, and Miss Ward, carried out the classification tests with marked efficiency. The applicants were divided into four groups 1 trained (specially), No. 2 trained (clerical), No. 3 trained (nonclerical), No. 4untrained, aud the Minister has expressed his appreciation of the able conduct of the classification. For the purposes of immediate absorption by the Civil Service Commissioner, a special list of 100 names was furnished, followed by a further list of a large number of women ready for work.. The Minister has requested the National Reserve to 1 now notify, by advertisement, employers of women clerical laboiir- that they havo a large number now ready to fill vacancies, particulars of which will be seen by advertisement, Prior to the Government registration, the reserve had placed a number of women and girls in various employments, and since the Government registration many others from the roll have also been absorbed, evidencing the actual practical work performed.
