THE MILITARY CROSS
WON RY A NEW ZEALANDER. Anstralian-Now Zealand Cable Association. London, August 25. The Military Cross has been aawrded to', Lieut. Richard ftidditord, a Now ZeaWuder. 'When his commander was wounded, Liout. Riddiford took charge of a raid, and organised and' led a charge of the party. During the withdrawal he remained in No-man's Land until every mat was back. [Lieut. Richard Riddiford is a son of tho late Mr. Richard Riddiford, grand, uon.'of the lato Mr. Daniel Riddiford, and a nophow of Mrs. D. G. A. Cooper. Details which have reached Masterton of the incident leading to the award of tho Military Cross to Lieut. Riddiford, are to the effect that after an engagement a number of Ruahino men lay wounded in No-man's Land. Nine times Lieut. Riddiford and Sergt.-Majo; Frost wont out, and each time they brought back two men, getting through their gallant work successfully. On the roll being called it was ascertained that ono man was still missing. Lieut Riddiford desired to go and search for this man, and was only with difficulty prevented from doing so. Later. the man was found alive, but blinded.]
