Oil the Somine the Allies have repulsed. very heavy- counter-attacks,, pressed by the enemy regardless of saorifice, and the British have made a further advance in the area east of tlie German stronghold of Thiepval. The Russians, in their main theatre, are extending their hold upon .the Carpathians and have closely approached'the Pantyr , Pass. They are making good headway aiso in Mesopotamia and Armenia. According to one report the Turks have evacuated Bitlis. Some fighting, to the advantage of the Allies, is reported on the Greek frontier, but no "big. development is disclosed in the Balkan situation. The latest reports from Rumania, speak of an immense increase in the army credit, and other suggestive details. Particulars are given of tlio latest raid 011 England, and of a successful <. attack by British aviators on airship sheds at Namur. According . to the "Daily Express" British Zeppelins: have appeared off the Danish coast, on naval patrol duty.
