Hawkins, of Na-. pier, who has boon serving with the New Zoaland Forces sinoe the outbreak of tho war, and who. went away attached to Genoral Russell's staff, has been promoted to tho rank,of major and second in command of tho 11th Cheshires. Colonel W. Burston, who was formerly Lord Mayor of Melbourne, visited Auckland last week, on his wa? homo from tho front. Colonel Burston left Australia with the second Victor-, ian contingent, and went through the entire Galiipoli campaign.

The Rev. A. J. Seamer, president of the New Zealand Wesleyan Young Men's Union, has been appointed a chaplain at> Trentham Military Camp. Captain-Chaplain Seamer enlisted as a private oarly in last year, and later hold tho rank of corporal in tho Otago infantry, but as tho result of an accident was invalided homo from Egypt for an operation in May last. Corporal George Littlo, who was recently reported wounded, is the son of Mr. Walter Littlo, of Takapau (H. 8.), and left with tho Seventh Mounted Reinforcements. His brother, Private Walter Little, was killed at Galiipoli in August last. Before leaving Wellington, Corporal Little was a prominent meinbei of local athletic clubs, and a deservedly popular sport. His friends will be glad to hear that his wound is slight, and that he is progressing favourably. At tho supper which succeeded the final performance of "San Toy" on Sat-. urday evening, Miss Minnie Sinclair, lvho was responsible for making the wholo of tho dresses worn in tho production, was presented . by the malo members of the Wellington Operate Society with a handsome lady's bag. Tho presentation was made by the stage manager (Mr. A. W. Newton), trho referred to the splondid work Miss Sinclair had done, work which had con. vinced the society that it was better to make their own costumes than to have thenf mado by outsiders. The llov. W. Walker, who has been in charge of the Methodist Institute at Trentoara Camp, ,J6 proceeding to the front with the Seventeenth Reinforcements.

The funeral of the late Mr. Dugald M'Kellar (formerly Collector of 'Customs at Wellington), which took place on Saturday morning, was largely at* tended. Among those who paid a last tribute to the decease<h"was. Sir William Hall-Jones (a former Minister of Customs and Agent-General), Mr. W. B. Montgomery (Secretary of Customs), Mr. R. Carter (a former Collector at Wellington), Captain T. Humphries (vice-president of the Nary. League), Mr. C. W. Palmer (represent, ing the Navy League), and many representatives of commercial and shipping interests in Wellington. The chief mourners were Captain A. W. M'Kellar, R.N.R., Messrs. H. D. and A. C. M'Kellar (eons), Mr. E. V. Law (son-in-law),. and Mr. Shailer Weston (nephew). The service at the graveside at Knrori was conducted by the Bishop of Wellington (Dr. f-iprott), assisted by the Rev. Mr. Payne, of St. Michael and All Angels' Church, Kelburn. As a tributo to his services in tho Bold .in the early days, the coffin was draped with the Union Jack of tho Wellington branch of the New Zealand Veterans' Association.
