GISBORNE WOMEN'S PATRIOTIC COMMITTEE

LETTER FROM LADY GODLEY. The Mayoress of Gisborne (Mrs. W. G. Sherratt) has received the following letter from Lady Godley, in acknowledgment of six cases of hospital garments sent by the Women's Patriotic Committee for use in her convalescent homo in Alexandria;— Dear Mrs. Sherratt,—Excuse the delay in answering your letter. I waited till tho cases had arrived, which they did quite safely last week. Tlrey are most excellent, and all the thiflgs of such good material and so well made. We are very grateful for them. A lot of them I am glad to get here for the men; and now, as a lot of surplus gifts from England have come, those we have not wanted here are being used at onco to send to Salonika, to make up for all tho hospital things lost in tho Marquette. They have to be sent off at once, so wo arc very glad to be able to help, and wo are sure you would wish this done. Warm woollen pyjamas, singlets, nighiingala wrappers, bed socks, hot water bottles, and llannel covers, sheds, pillow-oases, towels, mufflers, balaclavas, khaki .handkerchiefs, as well as white ones,' woollen slippers, fomentation flannel squares, as well as bandages, soap, writing paper and envelopes, some books,_ small pillows, air cushions- are all things most welcome. But flannel things are most needed now, as even here it is cold at nights,-and flannel is iho most wholesome; and over in /the Peninsula, and if they go to Salonika (we don't know if they will), it is bitterly cold. I hope I have answered all your questions, and I can't tell you how grateful everyone is for all you do. Wo have had many Gis'oorne men here, and they havo benefited very much, I thinkby their stay and change of surroundings. It was splendid of the Gisborne people sending up £1000, and all the money has been such a help, getting extras' and helping to keep these honws, and providing massage and endless things, we could not otherwise have done.—Believe me, wishing yon all as happy a Christinas as possible, yours truly —I, M. GODLEY. > * 3 '
