A private cable message received in Wellington states that Lieutenant F. F. Newman, Royal Horse Artillery, haa gone to Flanders. Lieutenant Newman is a member of the firm of Moorhouse, Hadfield, and Newman, solicit tors, Wellington, and only son of Dr. Newman, M.P. The Hon. W. Morgan, M.L.C., of Gisborne, is on a brief visit to his son, Mr. H. Morgan, clerk of Court, at Hawpra. . lie is accompanied by his daughter, Miss L. Morgan, and by another son (Mr. A. The annual report of the Wellington Commercial Travellers' and Warehousemen's Association, read at a meeting of the association last night, recorded with sincere regret the demise of Mr. John Duthie, the first life governor of the association. In their early history; Mr. Duthie took a keen interest in thq welfare of the association, and a memento in the shape of the "Dutliia Cup" would keep Inn; in the memory o£ meiuhers for generations. Mackenzie,, second sou of Mr. James Mackenzie, 1.5.0., F.R.G.S., formerly Under-Secretary of Lands aijd Surveyor-general of the Dominion. Lieutenant Mackenzie is 26 years of age, born in Karpri, being educated first at the Karori State School and subsequently at the New Plymouth and Grammas Schools. By profession he is a surveyor, and has been a staff officer of the Lands and Survey department since 19081 Some months ago he obtained leave of absence from the Department and enlisted, joining the special train' ing camp for non-coms.
