COMPULSORY SERVICE URGED
Our Masterton correspondent reports that at a meeting of the Wairarapa War Fund Executive held yesterday, a lengthy discussion took place upon tho proposals of„ the Government regarding recruiting. Several members who • belong to local bodies asserted that they were absolutely opposed to personal r.anvass; and would not dream of undertaking it. Eventually the resolution of the Patea League urging the Government' to pass. legislation at once to bring about compulsory service was unanimously adopted. The executive also passed , a resolution drawing the attention of the Minister of Defence to the inadequate equipment of officers and men, and appointed a deputation to wait .on the Minister on the subject.
