SOMETHING TO BE DONE.
The view of tho authorities is that a number of the young men who have fled to neutral America, and especially those who sailed in the Moana on Thursday, were shirkers-, fleeing from their obligagations to 6erve in the Army in defence of their eouiitiy.a.nd Empire. Something is to bo done by the Government to prevent tho exodus of young men, and tho Prime Minister stated yesterday "that the matter would be Considered at the next meeting of Cabinet. There is a suggestion that not only shall it be. mad© impossible for other men to leave but that thoso who have left shall bo punished by permanent banishment from New Zealand. This, however, is only a suggestion, lacking 1 official imprimatur.
