.' HOSPITALS IN ENGLAND. '- The Defenco Minister mentioned yesterday that he was in communication with the Imperial authorities "with regard to the extension of the New Zealand Hospital-at'Mount Felix/ He could not vouch for the accuracy of the cabled statement that some 2700 ."wounded New, Zealandere were in hospital in-England, but the number undoubtedly was very large. The Government was keeping in •touch with the men through the High Commissioner, and was trying to. gather them at one or two centres. - ■The Defence Department had no direct responsibility for the New Zealanders in English military hospitals, added Mr. Allen. It had been, willing to provide convalescent hospitals within the United Kingdom, but the War Office had indicated 'that it would be mora convenient to place the men in the ordinary military hospitals, and bad suggested that the Now Zealand Government should establish an auxiliary hospital at Mount Felix. The cost of maintaining' the wounded New Zealanders in England was a' matter of arrangement. The Dominion had undertaken to bear all charges connected with her Expeditionary Forces from the time of their departure until their return. A paymont would be made to tho War Office for tho maintenance of men in tho English hospitals.
At Hertford an old box has been discovered in tho Corporation yard, containing eleven standard measures, ranging from a quarter of ,a gill to a bushel. They are'of copper, and .of .wlendid workmanship, dated 1825.
