ACCOUNTANTS' SOCIETY

ANNUAL MEETING. The-annual meeting of the New Zealand Society. of Accountants was lield ill Wellington on Tuesday night. Mr. James Brown, of Dunedin, presided. The annual report'stated that a resolution was adopted at the November meeting of the council providing' that persons who completed the Senior Public Service' Examination prior to tho end .of the year 1915 might sit for the professional examinations at any time thereafter. Subject to this exception, the Matriculation Examination of the University of Zealand would in future be recognised as tho only entrance examination for membership to the society under the arrangement entered into with the University of New Zealand. The arrangements between the society and the University had continued throughout'the year, and might generally bo considered as satisfactory. The council was thoroughly of the opinion, however, that the society should make every effort to' be represented on the University' Senate." ' It had been, considered for some time past that-' the procedure of the Investigation. Committee was at times hampered by reason of the distribution of members of the committee throughout the Dominion, and it had beeu decided by the council that the work of the coilimifctee should in the fnturo be undertaken by the Executive Committee, which had been enlarged for that purpose, under the title of "The Executive, Investigation, and Finance Committee." < In moving the, adoption of the annual report tho chairman reviewed the events of the year, and touched on the effects of the war. He predicted that when peace again' reigned the British Empire would he found to be paramount in trade and business. ' The report was adopted. It was announced that' the following had been returned as members of the council: Messrs. E. J. Harvey (Marlborough) and J. G. Hutchinson (Canterbury);
