SECOND HOSPITAL SHIP MARAMA TO GO THE GOVERNOR'S. APPEAL. It is the'intention of the Government to equip, had send the s.s. Manama a? a hospital ship to do similar work to the Maheno. The Marama had been engaged, and she would be fitted up and made ready to sail in the first week in December.- -The-arrangements .regarding...the. fitting up of the Marama would be similar to those in the case of the Maheno; the Government would bear the cost of tko fitting up and the.provision of the, bedsteads, ■ and ' His Excellency the Governor would. kindly . take in hand much the same good work as he had done in the' case of the Maheno, out of moneys available. WHAT IS REQUIRED In the course of a communication forwarded for publication, His Excellency tho Governor appeals to the generosity of the people of Now Zealand for tlie undermentioned articles on behalf of the new ship:— 2000 feather pillows to fit pillow-slips of size given below 3000 sheets (two yards by three yards) 2000 draw sheets 3000 pillow-slips (twenty-one inches by thiyty-two inches) 1200 quilts (Bolton sheeting) 2000 bath towels 600 water bottles and covers 5000 faco and hand towels, 3000 pairs of pyjamas \ 1200 nightingales / 1200 bed jackets: 1000 nightshirts 2000 dayshirts (flannel) 2000 under-vests (not thick) 2000 bed sorks > 1000.pairs felt shippers 1600 pairs of day socks (knitted) 2000 fac'o wash cloths 0000 handkerchiefs (large) 1000 flannel drawers (not too thick) 1000' flannel 'dressing-gowns 1000 flannel waistcoats (without sleeves) 30 gross of various buttons 000-liair combs and 600 hair brushes 750 reels of cotton thread (black) and 750 reels of. cotton thread (white) 100 packets of needles (various). 250 pieces of tape (black) and 250 pieces of tape (white) 200 pounds worsted (various), in onequarter pound packets (twentypounds equals thirty pieces) 50 6ets of shoo brushes (patterns 15 to 17, various assorted) ■ 1500 tooth brushes and 1500 tins tooth powder ■ . ■ 400 deck chairs 1000 oushions . ' 1000 mufflers 1000 balaclavas An unlimited number of surgical towels and bandages of calico, gauze, crepe velpeau, crepe fardar, flannel, manytailed. Two additional motor-lauches are also required up to 16 horse-power, 28 feet long, 7 feet G inches or nine feet beam. Particulars can be obtained from Briga-dier-General A. W. Robin, C.8., C.M.G., Defence Office, Wellington. The Government is providing for tho hire of and all cost of fitting_ up and maintaining the hospital ship in every respect, including wards, bedsteads, operating-rooms, ' laundries, bakeries, wash-houses, etc.
