THE ASSAULT-AT-ARMS

- LOSS TO DATE, £39 65., A preliminary financial statement in connection with the, Assaultat-Arms and Military Tournament, which' took: place under tho auspices of tho Patriotic Society at Newtown Park on Saturday, Septonibor 4, has been prepared by the secretary (Mr! On tho expenditure side printing and advertising cost £83 3s. 6d.; the programme cost £43 Os. 9d.; Captain M'Laglen's fee, £70; taxi hire, : £76 16s. ; City Corporation (clectric lighting of park), £52 3s. 4d. (of which amount £20 Ss. 4d. was for repairs); horse feed and stabling, £22 9s. 3d.; cartage, £3 13s. 6d.; meals for men at Miramar and park, £10 65.; punching bags, made by R. G. Knight, £2 18s. The income was as follows:—Gate and ticket money,- £25"2; sale of 'programmes, £42 12s! 7d.; : rent ice cream cart, 155.; sale of flowers, 2s.' 3d. The unsatisfactory resulTs are attributed to the poor attendance. Hain fell 011 the morning of the day of the tournament, and thougjh it. cleared off in the afternoon the ground -was damp and'tho weather cold. Theso conditions .'militated, against. the big gate anticipated for the afternoon, and accounted for only £35 being taken at the . opening display.. , ■ ....
