FEDERAL AND STATE FINANCES RESOURCES OF THE WAR LOAN. By Telegraph—Press Association—Coryrleht (Rec. September 15, 11.20 p.m.) Melbourne, September 15. Including the balance to bo raised the War. Loan will only meet tho requirements of the Commonwealth till about the end of the calendar year, and.as the States require money to the extent of fifteen millions, another loan of thirty millions is considered probable. It is understood that the Federal and State Premiers ' have practically agreed that there shall be no borrowing except through the Commonwealth. The first instalment of . the War Loan closed with £13,380,000. New South Wales subscribed £5,250,000. WEST AUSTRALIA. (Rec. September 15, 11.15 p.m.)' Perth, September 15. In tlie Assembly, Mr. Scanlon, the Premier, delivered the Financial Statement. The revenue for the year totalled £5,140,725, which was £167,000 below the estimate. The expenditure amounted to £5,706,542, exceeding the estimate by £50,000. CAUGHT WITH THE GOODS. GERMAN'S SUPPLY OF BALL AMMUNITION. (Rec. September 15, 10.30 p.m.) Sydney, September 15. A naturalised German, named Behrniarm, has been sentenced to' three months' imprisonment for having 160 rounds of ball ammunition of military pattern in his possession. Accused refused to give evidence of how he obtained it. MINERS AND THEIR AGREEMENTS. NOTICE OF TERMINATION. (Rec. September 15, 11.20 p.m.) Sydney, September 15. The secretary of the Australasia State Coal Employees' Federation states that the minors' associations throughout Australia and Tasmania, excepting at Lithgow, have given a fortnight s notice from September 13 of tho termination of the present agreements. Ho adds that there is no likelihood of a stoppage of work resulting. MINERS' CONTINGENT FOR ENGLAND. Melbourne, September 15. Mr. Pearce, Minister for Defence, lias announced that the British Army Council has accepted the Commonwealth's offer of a thousand miners, and that steps are being taken to organise the unit. ARSENALS FOR AUSTRALIA. ADVISORY COMMITTEE TO VISIT INDIA. Melbourne, September 15. The Federal authorities have decided to' send a committee to India to inspect the arsenals there and make recommendations regarding similar establishments here. FRENCHMEN IN SYDNEY. PREVIOUS REJECTS AGAIN CALLED UP. Sydney, September 15. Frenchmen of military ago, including those previously rejected as unfit, have been called up for a second examination. ITEMS IN BRIEF. The Red Cross Commissioners in Egypt have cabled the Executive in reference to tho alleged sale of Red Cross goods there, stating that tliey can find no evidence of the sale, and . that the charges arose from confusion between the Red Cress depots and the canteen dopots.
