British .newspapers-are discussing the significance of the great expenditure of shells by the Allies, following upon raids by the Allies' aviators oil a large scalo upon' railway junctions and munition factories. FIGHTING IN THE VOSGES GERMAN ATTACKS REPULSED The High Commissioner reports.:— London, September 1, 4.20 p.m. "In tho Vosges, after a bombardment .by asphyxiating gas. shells, the enemy last night launched ,a violent attack against French ■ trenches at Linge and Schratzmaonelle.
