/ (Continued froni Page 2) PROVINCIAL CONVENTION WOMEN'S CHRISTIAN TEMPERANCE UNION. The Provincial Convention of the Women's Christian Temperance' Union concluded its business yesterday. An invitation to hold the convention in AVoodville in 1916 was received and accepted with ,thanks. /- i The following officers were elected:— President,. Sirs. Crabbe, of Palmerston North; secretary,, Mrs. Spearman, of Berhampore; treasurer, Mrs. Houlder, of Wellington. . The following resolutions were adopted:—"That this, convention requests the Minister of Public Health to take .further steps to ensure' the protection of food, especially meat and fish, from pollution by dust, flies, etc., while on . : sale.";. j- '■ "That:this convention desires to draw tho attention of thq Minister of Justice > to the increasing' frequency -'of. criminal assaultsupon, little girls of tender years;: also .' to the comparative'- mildness of sentences passed., upon men . guilty of theso offences, even; on'offenders convicted for, the second time, of outrages ' on little girls,, and respectfully ■ urges that for the protection of our . baby ' girls l such criminals should be confined for life; in farm colonies ' or. reformatories." ■ ' The subject of picture shows was next f discussed, arid the following resolution was passed'.'That,; this convention suggests to mothers' throughput,. the Dominion that wherever a film to which objection • may reasonably be taken: is . shown ,in i their town they-without fail communicate with the manager." , "I
