DOMINION BRANCH ' ; FOR THE NEW ZEALAND ARMY General Orders ( issued by Defenco Headquarters state that new regulations have been drawn up and approved by the Defence authorities . providing for the. cstablislinient of a Motor Service Corps in Now Zealand. The corps it ill bo known officially as tlie "Now Zealand Forces Motor Service Corps," and will consist of two sections: (a) The Motor- \ -car- Scction, and (b) feo Motor-boat section.. • : ■'. . The establishment will be as under One Lieutenaiit-Coloiiel in_commaud, with one staff officer (captain). . ..Motor-car Motor-boat .... . Section. . 'Hie ; District' Senior Officers will have -jurisdiction. over';'their-'respective';'sections' of tho corps, and will bo responsible to the Cohimandmg Officer for the proper training and efficiency of their commands. Tho New Zealand Forces Motor Service' Corps will "■ bo administered on mobilisation by a lieutenant-colonel of the Territorial Force, who will be .re-, sponsible to the Quartevmastei -Genoi al, assi.stcd by a staff officer, who'will b» ! appointed lrom the Permanent Forces of the Dominion. The administrative duties ' in peace will be -performed, as regards requisitions for servioe and payment, by an officer . of- tlie Headquarters Staff, under tho Quartorraastor-General. • In peace time, requisitions for the services of the New Zealand Forces Motor Service Coi-psUHll .'be served oil the dis- : ' trict senior officer, or the officer acting for him, by an officer of the Headquarters or District Headquarters Staff duly appointed for the purpose. Officers will ' bo called - lip for duty, as far 'as_ possible, in' rotation, and in the district in' which . they reside. . ;• y _,; Applicants for commissions in the New Zealand Forces -Motor-.■ Service Corps'; must; possess.. a' thoroughly .efficient . motor-car or a seaworthy motorboat; suitable for coast defcn.ce service,, and will, prior to appointment, be required/to pass a few simple tests relating 't6 elementary motor, .mechanics. First appointments will tie oil probation. Within twelve months ifrom the date of their appointment as second lieutenants (on probation) officers will be .required, to pass'an examinatiph, and on passing ,will be'promoted, to the rank of , lieutenant. Before promotion to the rank of captain',; officers; must, pass in a higher grade.-. Promotion to higher rank than that.of captain will be bv seniority as vacancies 'occur, subject to the recommendation ;0f the; district . senior officers through. the officer commandinj the. corps. In spccial cases, promotion may be made by Headquarters,, on the re-,, commendation of tho officer commandmg the corps, to higher rank without examination. » Vv';: •'" Officers' .will. ,be v requiredto perform • ten days' < dutv annually, consecutively or otherwise as required, or.twenty_halfdays, if called upon.. • All ranks will be required to attend at least six drill parades, per annum for tlio i purpose of receiving; instructions in suitablo subjects. >Such parades will not count as "tours-of duty," for which pay and allowances-are granted. ; , l ';Tlie duties of; the corps will .be entirely in connection 'with tne-Headquarters, District, and Coast Defence Staffs of the Defence Forces. . ; Compulsory members of the- Territorial Force are not eligible for appointment to the corps. ; ' . , Except in'the case.of mobilisation of the. forces, officers wnll only be called, generally 'within a forty-mile radius of: th© place of assembly for manoeuvres, etc. ■. .When called out for duty officers will receive pay and allowance as laid, down'in>.'.'Financial Instructions and Allowance Regulations.". Half rates only will bo paid for half-day tours. '-Motor-car Section.—ln cases where, the: tour of duty is over ; very rough and' hilly country, and much , stopping and restarting , 1 is';necessary,' district seniorofficers may authorise the payment of allowance at- rate and a half.
