Tho' General Committee of the Wa* rarapa audi East Coast P. and A. Society met in the society's office on Saturday. There were present. 28 members, ;Mr. A'. Clark, .president of the society, presiding. Mr. B. Trapp attended on behalf of the Patriotic Committee, and applied for the society's permission' to sell stock on show day for the benefit of the funds. Mr. Eagle had presented a purebred Jersey bull to be sold for the benefit of tho; soldiers,' and) permission was also asked.for the right to advertise the sale.iii-'the.society's schedule now being printed. It was resolved that permission' be granted to the Patriotic Committee to sell stock on show day, and that the matter of advertising it bo referred to the "Daily News" proprietary; who are printing the schedule. The Council of Agriculture wrote ro shortage of farm labour, and asked the society,' to report to the local Department of Labour the probable requirements of-the district. It was resolved that a committee consisting of T. Ingley, A. J. Toogood, A.'D. M'Leod,,H. Daysh, and W. H. Booth bo asked to confer with the Farmers' Union to estimate the amount of the probable scare- , ity. - - / ' The Now Zealand Council of Agriculture wrote enclosing a letter from Sir J. G: Wilson and the Duke of Portland, president of the-Royal/Agricultural Society of England, regarding assistance being given to tho. farming area, in.the devastated region! in Northern France and Belgium, - either in money, seed, stock, or implements. It was suggested that the Patriotic Committee would probably have this matter in view, and the secretary reported .that lis had written to' Mr. C' J. Reakcs, Government Veterinarian, for information regarding stock'in Belgium and France and probable requirements, who had suggested' that monetary donations would be proferablo on the score of expenses in shipping, etc., and that information would bo forwarded shortly. The. Carterton School Committee and also the Education Board wrot© referring to tho education of senior boys on the points of farm animals.. It was re; solved to reply that members were pre-' pared to assist by giving\ lectures- ,011 stock at their farms if schools district made arrangement for-scholars to attend. The president of the Board of Agri-< culture. wrote regarding the collection of seeds of grass and trees as education, and as a means of assisting the patriotic funds. It was suggested that ap-i plication should bo made to local bodies regarding the grass seed. . A sub-oommittee was formed to obtam r paddock suitable for'holding tho society's butter-fat competition for the coming show. It was suggested.that it should not be held this year, but members urged that it should bo continued if possible, because of the'interest it aroused; and also as various special donations had boon solicited, unjWere expected to go towards procuring a new trophy for the competition. It was resolved' that all soldiers from the various camps should bo invited to the show. :
