HOSPITAL SHIP FUND

STATEMENT BY THE GOVERNOR. His Excolleno.y the Governor has handed us the following for publication: "Since my last announcement regarding_ the Hospital Ship Fund, I. desire to inform tho public that in accordance with tho views expressed at tlie meeting held at Government House, Welling, ton, on July 29, I have disbursed the following amounts:— (1) For comforts for the sick and wounded in Egypt, £1000.' v (2) To the High Commissioner for New Zealand to be devoted to the Mount Felix Hospital for New Zealanders, at Walton-on-Thames, in response to an appeal for £10,000 made by flie High Commissioner and Lord: Plunket oil behalf of the New Zealand Association in' Great Britain, £5000. (I pro. pose to send tho remaining £5000 shortly.) (3) To the High' Commissioner and Lord Plunket for tobacco and newspapers for the sick and wounded at Malta and the Dardanelles, £150. (4) For comforts for tho sick and wounded at Trentham, £Gls 10s. 6d. (5) For No. 1 Base Hospital, EgjTyt, £500. . This leaves a balance credit of £27,640 9s. 6d., or £22,640 9s. 6d. after tho second £5000 has been sent to the Higli Commissioner. The total expenditure up to date, including the equipment of the Hospital Ship, has been £21,065 10s. 6d., and in accordance with the advice tendered to me at the above-mentioned meeting, I propose to keep in hand a' sum or not less than £10,000 for reconditioning the Malieno. .LIVERPOOL", Governor.
