POLICE CASES. ~ Mr. !D. G. A. Cooper, S.H., presided over a sitting of the Magistrate's Court yesterday. ; Michael Costello, \rJio stole a "wristlet watch valued'at' - 255.,' from William Young, at James Patterson's boardinghouse, was sentenced to two mouths' imprisonment. Chief Detective Boddam said accused had thirteen previous con.victions for similar offences against his name., Joseph Kenny elected to he tried by jury on a charge of using obsccne .language. 'Ho was defended by Mr. E.'G. Jellicoe. After hearing the evidence the Magistrate, on ' accused pleading not guilty, committed him to the Supreme Court for trial. Bail was allowed in Kenny s own recognisance in ,£25, Edward Doody -was fined 405., in default seven days' imprisonment, for resisting a constable, ,£3 or one month for using _ obscene language, and convicted and disciharged for drunkenness. John Turner was deemed to be an incorrigible rogue, arid'so'nt to gaol for six months.. A young- woman nkmed l Sarah M'Kelvie was sent to the Salvation Army Home for 12 months on a, charge of being idle and disorderly. - , ' ' _ For drunkenness, Peter Hughes was fined 405., in default seven days' imprisonment, and Mary Smith and Leslie Sykes each fined '10s. or 48 (hours'.
