The head offico of tho Shaw ; Savill, and Albion Company has been advised that the White Star liner Cufic will leave Sydney on September 1 for the Bluff to load frozen meat for Home. Mr. Harold Davies, an old Amokura. boy, who two years ago passed, hie seoond officer's examination, has recently been successful in obtaining his chief oflicer's certificate. At present Mr. Davies is in the employ of the Melbourne Steamship Co. Mr. R. B. Knights, wireless operator on the Waimate, has joined the Tainui in a similar capacity, vice Mr. 0. E. Mackenzie, deceased. Mr. C. Rule, late purcer of the Tarawera, arrived in Wellington.- from the south by the Maori yesjerday morning. Tho position of purser of the Tarawera has been filled by Nr. Neville. An arrival at Wellington from Lyttelton, via Picton, on Monday next, the Blackball Coal Company's steamer Ngahere, will be iplaced on the Patent -Slip for cleaning and painting. 'After discharging about 3000 tons of phosphates at Auckland from Makat-ea Island, the Wonganella will go on to Ocean Island to load a similar cargo for Australia. Before coming on to Wellington the South Taranaki Steamship Company's Kapuni will make one or two trips between Puponga and Patea with coal. In. connection with tlio announcement some weeks go that the A. and A. Lino had chartered a fleet of sailers to. load at New York for Australian ports, it is reported that several of the vessels have loft tho American port. Tho Gwydyr Castle, Invermay, and Belford left in June, and the Ivilpurney on July 1. The ports, of call arc Sydney, Newcastle, Melbourne. and Brisbane. • A projected departure from Liverpool for Wellington, >via way ports, 'about the end of this month, is the New Zealand Shipping Company's steamer Otaki. The vessel is coming out nnder the auspices of the F. and S. Line. TheA. and A. Line's chartered steamer Kar&mca was to have left. New York for New Zealand ports, via Panama Canal, on August 5. No authentic news has been received of tho vessel's departure. Arrangements have been made for the Mapouriba, which arrived at Wellington from West, Coast ports, via Nelson and Picton lost evening, to leave here for New Plymouth at 3 p.m. to-day, She will return in time id sail from Wellington for tho West Coast at naonon Saturday. It is expected that the C. and D. liner Niwaru will get away from -Wellington for southern ports to-daj. The )or;.l agents foe tho U.S. and 'A. Lino have been advised by their' principals in Melbourne that tho chartered, steamer Olan Parquhar was to have left New York for Auckland and Wellington, via Panama Canal, on August 24. Provided tho vessel cleared on that date sho should be in New Zealand'waters about the end of next month. Tho CI and D. liner Mitritai was to havo Ne-v York for New Zealand ports on August 22. On inauiry at the local office of the company yesterday it was ascertained . that no news of bar departure had been received. Advice has been received by Messrs. Dalgety and Co., looal. agents for tho U.S. and A. Line, to the effect that their chartered steamer Norman Monarch left New* York for the four -New. Zealand main ports on July 20.
