TRAMWAY FATALITY. DEATH OF AN UNKNOWN JUAN. , At about 8.30 p.m. on Saturday a middle-aged mail who wandered oa to the tramway track in Courtenay Place opposite tlio United Friendly Societies' pharmacy, was run down by a tramcar, and so seriously injured that he died at the Hospital at 7 a.m. yesterday. The identity of the deceased still remains a mystery. Ho was a mail about. 50 years of' age, of medium height .(about sft. 4in'.), with brown hair going grey, blue eyes, and false teeth, some of which were broken. Two fingers of his right hand are missing. When the accident occurred tho deceased was wearing a dark tweed overcoat, dark tweed coat and trousers, and. a light tweed vest, brown socks, a blue shirt, grey: underpants, and an undershirt of flannel.

FALL MOM A SCAFFOLDING. While employed in making alterations at the Gresham (late City Buffet) Hotel, Lambton Quay, on Saturday mining, a carpeuier named Harrison Waterhouse fell from » . scaffolding. Waterhouse had been trying to remove a piece of iron pipe railing which was in the way of a fellow employee, when the pipe, which was' eaten through- with rust, broke and Waterhouse overbalanced and fell. The . injured .man sustained a oompound fracture of the right ankle, and was taken to tho Hospital. * MAORI WOMAN FATALLY BURNT. Intimation was received by Superintendent Ellison ou Saturday that a Maori woman named Ngawine Ranginui, who lived about •14 miles from Manakau, was severely burnt last Monday. v Her clothes accidentally caught on fire, and, she died on Friday, night from the injuries received. • (By Telegraph.—Pre?* Association.* Ashburton, July 31. -Four accident cases wore admitted to the Ashburton' County Hospital between last evening and .this afternoon. Wm. Bertram Healey, of Dromore, ,was Walking over the railway line near Dromoro station when he tripped up, fracturing a small bone of the left leg. William Brady, aged thirty-six years, was ploughing at Maronan. Ho was standing ou tho plough, which gave a jolt and he was pitched backwards ou to a spike. His back has been hurt, but his exact injuries aro not yet ascertainable. . This morning Mrs. Bell, of Lynnford (Hinds), was, with the assistance of her little girl, unharnessing a horse ill a trap in Ashburton. One trace only- had been loosed, when tho horse walked forward and knocked .Mi s. Bell doi\ n, the vehicle passing over her. The precise injuries are not yet available.
