DRUIDS' FESTIVAL

TORCHLIGHT PROCESSION AND .CONCERT.

The patriotic demonstration of the Order of Druids on Saturday evening .was attended with great success. As a prologue to an excellent concert given in the Town Hall, there was a torchlight procession through the City. The procession was an interesting one, and tho Druidsj dressed in full regalia, wero . lit up in an almost ghostlike manner by the green and crimson lights of tho torches. A. number of the City bands took part in the procession. ; Tho Town Hall was well filled for the concetti, and among those present were Their Excellencies the Earl and Countess bf Liverpool. The programme was a toost enjoyable one. Mrs. J. F: Woodward sang sweetly and with artistry ■"Rosebuds" (Arditi), Alfred Hill's .•"Waiata Poi," and "April Morn" (Batten). Mr. j. Parker gave a cornet ' solo, "The Better Land" .(Cowen), playing with great sympathy, adding "II •Bacio" as an encore. Mrs. Rosewarne and Miss Barry weraheard enjoyably in tlis vocal duet, "Till Dawn" (Loewe), and again in solo numbers, Mrs. Rosewarne singing "Soul of Mine" (Barnes), and Miss Barry "Love is a Slave" (Squire). Both were encored. Miss Betty Purdom and Mr. J. Culford Bell contributed in .no small manner to the success of the concert. The former gave "The Wife who Sat TJp," and Mr. Bell delivered the noiv well known recitation of Mr. Barry Marschel's, "Kidd from Timaru." Other items on the programme were:—Tenor solos, "She is Far from the Land" and "Let Me like a Soldier. Fall," Mr. Harry Phipps; violin solo, "Lament" (L. Armand), Miss' ■Myrtle M'Laughlin; songs, "The Deathless Army," "A Sergeant of the Line," !and "A" Song of Life," Mr. Courtenay V. Molir; songs, /.'Land of •Hope and Glory" and ".Rule Britannia," Mr. Charles Clarkson. An orchestra Hinder the conductorship of Mr. W. M'Laughlin contributed selections. Mrs. Ernest Queree was at the piano. The proceeds of the concert are-to go to the Belgian Relief and New Zealand : (Wounded Soldiers' Funds.
