SENSATIONAL FIGHT IN MID-AIR
BRITISH AIRMEN ATTACK GREAT GERMAN BIPLANE A THRILLING EXPERIENCE By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright London, June 28. "Eye-Witness" gives an account of an aerial duel at a height of four thousand feet, at Poelcapelle, between a British aeroplane, manned by two officers, and a great German biplane, driven by a pair of engines. The Germans used .i machine-gun fruitlessly, and the' British fired fifty rounds at a- range of 200 yards. The German engines stopped, Slid tho biplane was forced to dive 2000 feet. German anti-aircraft guns pierced the petrol tank of the British machine, and the oil ignited and exploded the remaining rounds in the machine-gun. The pilot- kept control, though a large part of the machine's framework was destroyed, the propeller blades badly damaged, and both oiiicers severely burned, though they landed safely. GERMANS CLAIM AN AIR VICTORY. London, June 28. A Berlin communique claims that the Germans shot down two French aeroplanes and forced two others to land in Swiss territory.
