Either because of line interruptions or the fog of war the news from the great theatres of the European conflict is scanty. The Russian communique mentions heavy fighting on certain sectors with losses to tile enemy, while the Germans claim to have occupied Halitz after five days' desperate fighting. An artillery duel is reported from the Western front. The news from the Italian theatre discloses operations 011 new ground in Austrian territory. The Allies' armies have raided the Zeppelin hangars at Friedrichsliaveii, ond dropped eight bombs, with what result is not stated. British submarines in the Sea of Marmora have been playing havoc with Turkish shipping. A British success is reported from East Africa, where the enemy's base at Lake Victoria Nyaiiza, with lake steamers and stores, has been destroyed. The British War Munitions Bill has been read a second time in tho House of Commons, and its practical operation is expected by the week-end.
