THE GUARD OF HONOUR
AT OPENING OF PARLIAMENT. The guard of honour provided by tlio Treiithani I'orees for the opening of Parliament have received high praise 011 all hands, and the Minister of Defence (the Hon. Jas. Allen) has received the following letter from His Excellency the Governor;— "Dear Colonel Allen, —Will you kindly ask the Commandant to convoy to tlie guard of honour my extreme gratification at their turn-out and general iippearuucc? L was pleased that it was possible to arrange for the attendance of the band, and also—what was exceedingly pleasing to me—namely, the fact that t'he two new battalions ot my regiment were 011 duty at tlio House. Quite apart from the appearance of the troops aiid the actual" ceremony, I watched them marching down Lainbton Quay this morning, and iw one could have failed to be struck by thoir general appearance and soldierly bearing, I think it relleets the greatest possible credit on their instructors. —Yonrs sincerely (Signed) Liverpool." The following letter has also been received by the Camp Commandant front the General Officer Commanding: "Opening of Parliament, 1915. Guard of Honour. —The Commandant of the# Forces directs me to state that, he was very pleased with the smartness, steadiness, and soldierly bearing of the guard of honour furnished front the Trentham Camp 011 the occasion of the opening of Parliament by His Excellency the Governor on June 25, 1915. The Commandant considers that the soldier-like turn-out reflects very great credit upon the men themselves, upon their noncommissioned officers, officers, and their instructors."
