KIRKWOOD CANVASES

FOR THE BELGIAN FUND. Mr. H. W. Kirkwocd. of Wangnnm, is an artist with a fine natural gift for colour and composition and at the present tinio one of the best collections of his work wo have' yet seen in Wellington is on view at Tingey's, in Manners Street. The paintings are being raffled in aid of the Belgian Fund at 6d. a ticket, ind needless to say the demand is keen —so keen thai the raffle is to bo closed on Monday nav.t and drawn the same evening at the .People's Picturo I'alace ,in Manners Stueet. Tho first prize is a laJ'ge canvas portraying the solemn glories of Dusky Sound forest-clad cliffs, descending softly to the placid waters 01S the mirrorlike Sound. Mr. Kirkwood can paint still water as well as any arfcists in New Zealand. Touches of light o» the bluffs •jive life and colour „o a really beautiful piece of work. "On the Maitei River" is a painting for which big Efioney is said to have been offered and refused, as it was in a manner pledged to the art union. Here Mr. Kirk wood's lively seii6e of colour in bush and stream, and his clean palette work is notably good—a most desirable picture. The third picture is 6ure to interest southerners — "Sunset on the Taieri Plains," a. farextending landscape reddened by the glow of the westering sun The proportion and perspective are admirable, and overall broods that indefinite characteristic of the place—atmosphere. This characteristic is also delightfully expressed in a little gem cf a- painting entitled "Morning," a sea dappled by a zephyr, which stretches away 'into the white eye of the morning, with a yacht set fair and frail in the iris. These pictures aro well worth while.

Mrs. Arthur M. Myers, of Auckland, accompanied by her family, arrived here 011 Monday afternoon, and has gone into residence at 53 Hobson Street. It will be of interest to ladies to learn that Mrs. Rolleston's hairwork department has been considerably extended, and a large shipment of m'ost beautiful Eng-i jish hair is just to hand. A speciality is made of transformations, toupees (fronts), and swathings, English designs and prices. Combings made up bv special process. 256 Lambton Quay. Tel., 1599. —Advt. SUPERFLUOUS HAIR. THE PROOF OF RUSMA EFFICIENCY. In saying Rusma will remove the unsightly Superfluous Hairs without pain, without leaving scars, and without inconvenience, Mrs. Hullen has proof to support her statement. Here is one of scores of voluntary testimonials :— "Cape Town. "Just a line to let you know that the pan,of TtUSMA' I got is a complete success, and I no longer need to use it," Further, Mrs. Hullen's Rusma GUARANTEE should prompt you to call or write! Will you? MRS. HULLEN, Specialist, Bo'ulcott Street, Wellington. Dept. 3. Telephone 1047.—Advt. TALKS ABOUT HAIR. It'should be realised that it is natural for hair to grow as long as life lasts, and most unnatural for it to cease doing so at any stage. But modern life is crowded with conditions antagonistic to hair growth, and it is impossible to keep hair at its .best except by proper treatment. Consult Miss Alilsom. She treats and teaches the truo massage of the head and imparts to clients sufficient knowledge that they can carry on her treatment m their own homes. Miss Milsom, Barnett's Buildings, 91 Willis Street (t doors past "Evening Post"). Telephone 814. — Advt. "SYDAL" (Wilton'.. Hand Emollient). "I've got such a tender skin I think I will grow a beard." "I'll get a divorce if you do. Why can't you use a little "SYDAL' before shaving?" "You men are 6uch stupids."—Advt., THE OLD DICTUM. "ONCE GREY, ALWAYS GREY," Is now utterly disproved. WALNUT BRILLIANTINE will restore grey hair to original colour and keep it life like and glossy; it acts as a nourisher to the roots, and at the same time supplies the natural colouring matter. Dyes are mosrt unsatisfactory, they invariably turn the hair unsightly shades, such as bronze, majenta, and green. Try WALNUT BRILLIANTINE as a dressing and restorer. One application will convince you of its merits. It is unequalled in cases of premature greyness and great loss of hair. Price 3s. 6d. from Geo. Mee, Chemist, Lambton Quay, Wellington.
