The Political Labour Council has refused to accept Mr. Anstey's resignation, contending that if it was accepted it would lead other members of tho party to act similarly, thus seriously affecting its solidarity. The value of the South Australian estate of the lata Mr. John Darling (head of John Darling and Son, grain merchants and millers, and chairman of tho Broken Hill Proprietary Co.) is £1,694,620, and tho Victoria estate £■121,360. A cheque for £44,325 was paid in duty for the Victorian portion alono. VICTORIAN LIQUOR RESTRICTION BILL. Melbourne, June 26. The Legislative Council has passed tho Liquor Restriction Bill. SIR GEORGE REID'S SUCCESSOR. London, June 25. It is rumoured that the Hon. W. M. Hughes (Federal Attorney-General) will succeed Sir George Reid in London as High Commissioner for Australia.
