Tho collior Nfrakuta, which left here on 6pedial trip to Sydney some weeks ago, on account of scarcity of work in local waters for ships of her class, arrirod at Auckland from Sydney on 'Thursday. She has a full cargo of coal for discharge at khfl-t port. The Ngakutet should armfl at Wellington on Saturday next. THE PAPAROA. The New Zealand Shipping Company's liner Paparoa arrived at Auckland from London. Plymouth, Cape Town, u,nd Hobart, on Thursday night. The vessel, which is running in the usual monthly service between Homo ports and the Dominion, is making Auckland her first port of call owing to the large Quantity of oargo to be discharged, which amounts' to 4000 tons. She is bringing 130 third-cla-ss passengers, who are booked to all parts of New ZeaThe Pa/paroa will subsequently visit Wellington, Lyttelton, and other southern ports to complete her discharge and load i for London. THE RANGATIRA. Having loaded a large quantity of frozen mutton, tallow, and other cargo, the Rangatira sailed from Port Chalmers on We<s» nesday lot Lyttelton and other Homeward loading iports. The vessel, which due here on Sunday, sails finally from Welling' ton for London on "Wednesday next. THE MANAPOTTRI. Thp Manapouri was docked at Port Chalmers this week to undergo survey and overhaul prior to leaving there under new ownership. The purchase negotiations were carried out by Mr. Arthur Hosell, of Sydney, on behalf of clients whose identity lias not been disclosed so far. It i- proh» able that tho Manapouri will be ready for sea about the end of this month. LOADING FACILITIES AT NEWCASTLE. According to advioo received from Australia a scheme has been prepared by the Publio Works Department' there to improve tho coal loading facilities of Newcastle. The jetty on which it is proposed to erect an experimental i?pe of coal loading plant is now in hand. The 00*1 will be brought in by a circular railway and dropped into tho conveyor plant. This will lift It into hoppers, and the coal will then gravitate to the loading belt 3 and 'pass into the ship's hold. It is estimated that 500 4 tons of coal per hour can be dealt with, and that the congestion of shipping now complained of will disappear. A plant on similar linoa hag recently beon established at Port ICembla., and the experience there shows that the coal has not srokon any more than, if as muoh as, when the yard shoots were'employed. It if announced that tho Carington Wharf, 17fc5Et. long, is practically comploted, and that the first of six electric coal-loading cranes is being erected. JIESS-TABLE GOSSIP. Captain 0. Melville is now second engineer of tho Himitangi, The Ngatoro passed the Heads at 7 o'clock last evening bound for Greymouth. The steamer Physa, which has arrived at Auckland on one of her periodical visits with a full cajgo of aborted case oils from Singapore, is due hero next week. The vessel is discharging 30,000 cases of ben. zinc, and 3CCO cases of kerosene at Auckland. Tho balance of her cargo will be distributed at Wellington, Lyttelton, Timaru, and Dunedin. The Physa left Singapore on May 5, and called at Balikpapan (Borneo) to load a quantity of crude oil, which she discharged at Sydney. The Wootton, which has been on tho fiU'p at Lyttelton undergoing overhaul, is loading a cargo there for Wanganui. She leaves for that port on Monday. 'The Blackball collier Ngahcre is expected to reach here next Thursday from Greymouth, via Oamaru, Lyttelton, and Wellington. The R.M.6. Maknra,. which left Sydney for Auckland and Vancouver on Thursday la*t, is bringing Australian and transhipment cargo for New Zealand.
