ORGAN RECITAL.
The poem "Le Gene et la Mort," by Rebikoft, -which was the leading feature of Mr. Bornard F. Pago's recital on Saturday night, is a remarkable work in the psychological sense, and incidentally exemplifies in a striking manner the ultra reformative treatment that all academic rules of harmony and composition are undergoing in the modern Russian school. Tho poem was originally written for_ a full orchestra, and is not in the strictest senso "programme music" at all. It is to such liko. brave spirits that the work is a triumph over pedantry. Tho audience greatly appreciated the music, but doubtless would find it no light task to giye some justification for that appreciation. Mr. Page was accorded an ovation. He has a fine mental grasp of the character of the work, and his ingenious registration enabled him to make tho most of tho qualities mentioned.. There is also great praise, too. for Cesar Franck's "Finale in B Flat, a, work of surpassing grandeur and elegance of -thematic construction. Salome, Claussman, and Back were represented by pastorales.- Tho "Suite" Ancienne," consisting of ' "Prelude Chorale," "Couranto," "Duo," and Finale all Fuga," from the pen of Holloway, an eminent English organist and composer, was also included, and there were attractive strains in the "Preludio" by CorelH, which belongs to a past era in musical, development. Mr. Page had to repeat tho last portion of the Preludio to satisfy bis audience.
