The Hastings Branch of the Plunket Nurses Society sent their first consignment- of baby-clothing to London by the New Zealand Shipping Co.'s Rotorua, which left Napier on Monday. This is the first result of the babyclothing scheme inaugurated by the society, whereby all members of the different branches, and their friends, make at least two garments a month, the articles when finished to bo done up in bundles according to a list approved by the Dunedin Council, containing clothing for an infant from birth to a year old. These bundles are for distribution at the free materniLj hospitals being organised in London by Lady French, Airs. Henry Fawcett, ami Lady Balfour. All articles are made on simple and hygienic lines, of the best material. This first case .contained contributions from Auckland, Danncvirke, Marton, and Hastings, in all 679 garments. .It was insured free by the Norwich Fire Insurance Society, Ltd., carted from Hustings to Napier free by Williams and Creagli; M&srs. Richardson and Co. gave free lighterage, and the N.%. Shipping Company free carriage to London.
