NOTES AND COMMENTS

[Br Glbncoj.l

The Trentham horses whicn are engaged at Woodville on Wednesday and Thursday are being railed there this morning. They are Sartovna and Try Hard, in charge of H. Kingan; Meritorious (A. Crawford); Hap Dha (H. Kingan); Salado (C. Pritchard); and Rerehou (H. Telford).

Sutala has made such a good reoovery from his recent accident that a local "vet." has expressed the opinion that he will race again. He has been removed from the course to J. Scott's stables. ■ Merry Guy did not pull up too well after his winning effort at New Plymouth, and he will need a few days spell. His next outing will probably be at Dannevirke.

The Riccarton trainer, G. Scobie, returned to Melbourne by the Paloona, which left last evening. Scobie had a pony with him that he will race or sell in Victoria. F. M'Cabe was also on board, and he had with him the Auckland horse Troublesome and a gelding by Fiske from Satellite, dam of Kuroki and D'Nil. The two mtter have been purchased by a Melbourne buyer, and M'Cabe will school them at Camfield.

The Martian filly limner has been sent to Dunedin, but she will not race until the second day, when she will contest the Jockey Club Handicap, in which she will be ridden by A. Reed. The Riccarton trainer, H. B. Emmerson,, has purchased at Palmers ton Isorth a fcrur-year-old maTe by Field. .Battery from Katriona, dam of Deploy. She will be sent south next week.

J. Lowe has hooked three boxes at Wanganui, and he will go there on day next with Kilrain, Chakwana, and Miraculous. Try Hard,, the fnll-sieter to Expect who has an engagement in the Maiden Plate at Woodville, was galloped with a two-year-old in J." Ayer's stables at Trencham on Saturday, brat the. latter easily accounted for her. Tho Diver,' a dual winner over fences at the Marton Summer Meeting, seems well handicapped at Woodville with 111b. above the minimum. The field is a weak one, and is headed by the Marton-trained Glen Nevis, who has lOst. Olb.

Blackall, who showed fair form at the Trentham Meeting last month, will be a runner in the Whariti Hack Handicap, seven furlongs, at Woodville. The All Black gelding will be ridden by L. Wilson, who will also have tho mounts on Allan Doone and Marshal M'Donald. Meltchikoff, who has been racing most consistently of late, may bo sent out fav-ourite-in the Publicans' Handicap at Wingafcui to-morrow. Mr. M'Donald s horse is well seasoned now, and this should stand to him at tho end of a fast-run raoe which finishes up a rise. An effort tos made to get W. Bell to ride Petrosus in the big sprint, event at the Dtmcdin' Jockey Club's Meeting, but the Higliden horseman had already been engaged for Moonglow in tho 6ame race. Orleans will be ridden in the Woodville Cup by : W. Young. The way tho Conqueror gelding finishes at the end oi his races over seven furlongs suggests that he would have no difficulty m getting another three furlongs. , ■ Handicap per .T. E. Henrys, Stipendiary ,T. M'Mahon, Starter A. G. Wood, and Jockeys Deiley, Hell, and Reed wore passengers for tho south by the Wahine bust evening. They, aro bound for the Dunedin Meeting. ' B. Snapdragon and Moonglow in the same events, . A. Oliver has recovered sufficiently to be able to leave the Hospital. He will spend a fow days in the city before returning to Awapuni. It was expected that J. O'Shea would be relicensed by the Auckland Racing Club last Friday evening, but liis name does not appear in the list printed. W, J. Porter, who is now at Trentham, received word yesterday that P. Porter was doing well at Wairoa, but he will not bo able to be shifted for some time yet. Taringamatu has now been withdrawn from the Jackson Stakes at Wanganui, and it may be some little time before Mir. G. Nash/e filly is.again seen sporting silk. The injury to her shoulder has proved more serious than was at first anticipated. FIXTURES. Feb. 17, 18, and 20.—Dunedin J.C. Autumn. Feb. 19 and 20.—South Auckland R.C. Annual.
