ON CHARITABLE DONATIONS. " A statement was recently made by*afi Opposition newspaper to the effect that new regulations had been issued bj* which subsidies are only payable by the Government upon direct donations to ■ the Hospital and Charitable Aid Boards, to lie expended only by such bodies, and not by other charitable bodies affiliated with them. A case in point cited was that of the refusal of tho Health Department to pay the 245. ( in ,the £ subsidy promised three years ago to tho, Raglan Medical Association in the Waikato Hospital and Charitablo Aid Board's district. The. Hon. R. H. Rhodes, interviewed' on the subject yesterday, said that no new regulation has been made, but a new form of declaration is. required from applicants for a subsidy, in conformity with the rules, by which tho. Audit Department follows in all such" cases. This form of declaration is the result' of the efforts' of the Audit, Crown' Law, and.Charitable Aid Departments, to get over the difficulties that existed in the . past, when the payment of certain subsidies had to bo validated afterwards. It lias been stated _ that tho Auckland Ladies' Benefit Society would: not get a subsidy through the Charitable Aid Board on moneys collected for relief.
